These are memories of times spent at the home where my dad (Clarence) grew up. My sister Merle's birthday and Aunt Louvie Carson's were the same - June 19th. Merle and I always spent two weeks in June at our grandparent's home and made a point to be there June 19th. to celebrate. Before we got there Grandpa "Willie" would have been watching the birds and would know where several nests were. He always took us on a hike to see the nests. We saw our first (and only) hummingbird's nest there. We enjoyed seeing the baby birds fed. At 9:00 o'clock at night all would kneel by their chair while Grandpa led us in prayer. Sunday dinner was usually cooked on Saturday afternoon, so that all could go to church the next day. The two-seated carriage was used when going to church on rainy days so that curtains could be used. The surrey was used when there was no threat of rain. (Memories from the notes of Mabel Carson Hardman.)
