Note as of 26 Aug 2011 - I have some research that I plan on adding to the Bio section for this Charles Henry CAMPBELL, son of GEN William CAMPBELL and Elizabeth (HENRY) CAMPBELL.

The inscription may be a little misleading:
1) he has a sister, Sarah Buchanan CAMPBELL - who survived them all - and she married 1st a General PRESTON (?). She inherited land when this young brother of hers died.

2) I'm pretty certain that this GEN William CAMPBELL had another son - who probably died as an infant. I have to dig that info out of my research and post it here.

As for the land - the father of this Charles was General William CAMPBELL (famous as overall commander during the Battle of King's Mountain). The General's father was a Charles CAMPBELL who had surveyed this area with others and been awarded a large grant of land which had been passed along to his children. Additionally, the VA Legislature awarded this Charles Henry CAMPBELL additional land on behalf of his father's service during the war.

The administration of the General's estate was handled by related CAMPBELL's, and later by two executors.

This website contains a link to the Will of Henry CAMPBELL
http://mytree.net/gen/getperson.php?personID=I2524&tree=MAST

and includes references from Washington County, Virginia survey abstracts
which describe land owned by Charles Henry CAMPBELL and Sarah B. CAMPBELL.

So... there is a hurricane heading our way and I hope to get back to this later when I can add info on the other son of Gen William CAMPBELL & Elizabeth HENRY.

Also - the connection between the CAMPBELL and HENRY lines, and Thomas CAMPBELL, the poet famous in Scotland who claimed ties to the same line.
