John DeLang was the son of Peter DeLang/DeLanghe/DeLong and Eva Elizabeth Weber. The Webers imigrated to New York and arrived on the "Globe" to New York Harbor.

A birthdate of Mar 27, 1723 reportedly based on tombstone readings of age 90y 7m 27d and deathdate of Nov 29, 1813 is believed to be erroneous, as previous information had a birthdate of Apr 14, 1730 and baptized as HANNES at Quassaik kill, Ulster Co. 7 Jun 1730. Sponsors were Hannes Neukirk and Gerritje, his wife. [Records of NY Luth. Ch.]

John married Marie Catherine Dussinger (aka Maria Katherina) on Apr 4, 1754 (or 15th?) in Mertz Church, Dryville, Berks Co., PA. She is deceased by 1783 when John is called a widower in a baptismal record. The couple had 10 children:

1. Johnnes DeLang/Delong b. 1755.
2. John Nicholas DeLong b. 1756.
3. Anna Maria DeLong Neiss b. 1757.
4. Anna Margretha Delong Good b. 1759.
5. Christian DeLang b. 1760-61; d.y.
6. Joseph DeLang b. 1764.
7. Johann Peter DeLang b. 1766.
8. Moses DeLong b. 1768.
9. Eva Elizabeth DeLang Neiss b. 1770.
10. Catherine DeLang Leidecker b. 1772.

During the American Revolution, Johannes took the Oath of Allegiance to the Continental government. He may have been a member of the Berks County, Pennsylvania militia, but no record of active service exists. Since Johannes was at least forty-five years old in 1775, it is doubtful he participated on more than a token basis. He is listed as a Private as marked on his tombstone.
