Jimalyn BARTHOLOMEW, 86, of Steamboat Springs and formerly of Loveland died in her sleep May 24, 2004, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs.
She was born April 23, 1918, in Mount Harris, Colo., to James S. and Lillie Mae GOURLEY. She grew up on a ranch in Pleasant Valley and attended country schools, then graduated from Steamboat Springs High School.
She married Oliver W. BARTHOLOMEW on June 21, 1939, in Steamboat Springs. Their home for 50 years was Cloverdale Ranch, where Oliver was born and raised.
After becoming a wife and mother, she pursued her interest in working with children and, in her 40s, decided to become an elementary school teacher. She began teaching kindergarten, first and second grade in Oak Creek and attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie during the summers. After graduating with a degree in elementary education she taught in Oak Creek for many years.
The couple moved in 1990 to retire in Loveland, where Mrs. BARTHOLOMEW lived until 2003. She made many friends in Loveland and enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo and traveling with them. After her husband died in 2000, her dream was to return to Steamboat Springs, which she did in 2003.
She was a member and past matron of Steamboat Springs Chapter No. 95 Order of Eastern Star, a Rainbow mother, and member of the United Methodist Church where she was baptized May 17, 1936.
She is survived by sons Neil BARTHOLOMEW of Denver, Leonard BARTHOLOMEW and wife Dana of Dallas, Texas, and James BARTHOLOMEW and wife Gwen of North Hollywood, Calif.; daughter Karen WARDLAW and husband Larry of Colleyville, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver W. BARTHOLOMEW; brother Horace Burren GOURLEY of Steamboat Springs; and sisters Aleen BROOKS and Olevia HAZLETON.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Yampa Valley Funeral Home, with family present. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
