Michel Petrucciani

Musician. Born in Orange Vaucluse, France, he was a French jazz pianist whom was only three feet tall and weighed barely 50 pounds. At thirteen, he gave his first concert as a professional at the Cliousclat Festival where he was offered a job to perform with American trumpeter Clark Terry. After following the concert tour with Terry in the South of France, he performed at the Paris Jazz Festival and was a sensation at the Theatre de la Ville. Moving to California in 1982, he joined Charles Lloyd's new quartet. He put on a solo performance at Carnegie Hall which resulted in widespread critical acclaim. He worked with some of the best jazzmen in the world to include Stanley Clarke, Jim Hall, David Sanborn, Gerry Mulligan and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1986, at age 21, he became the first French musician to sign with the prestigious Blue Note Label, where he recorded six albums. He continued to travel the world, touring, recording and boarding his music environment. In 1994, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in Paris. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
