One year old Rachel was the namesake of her mother's beloved sister, who had been first wife to Francis Whitmore, tiny Rachel's father.
Francis Whitmore and Rachel White, daughter of Mary Stone and Ensign Hugh White, had been married 15 July 1750 at Middlesex County, Connecticut. Just shy of nine months later, Rachel died at 21 and family lore is that she and her unborn babe died in childbirth.
