Civil War Confederate Army Officer. Served with distinction as a Colonel in the Trans-Mississippi Department, and was recommended for promotion to Brigadier General by General Edmund Kirby Smith. Although some sources state he was promoted, there is no evidence that his recommendation to the Confederate Congress was ever affirmed in the rank of General. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jenkin's Ferry, Arkansas.
