Birth: Jun. 11, 1880
Decatur County
Iowa, USA
Death: May 1, 1957
Clarke County
Iowa, USA

Lewis Wesley, son of R. F. and Harriet N. Mitchell Goff, was born near Leon on June 11,1880, and departed from this life at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola on May 1,1957, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 20 days. His entire life was spent in Decatur and Clarke counties.
He was united in marriage to Grace Gamble on July 4, 1902. Their married life was spent in and near Weldon. Wesley was engaged in farming a good many years and specialized in registered Jersey cows and purebred Poland China hogs. He also worked in a hardware store in Weldon and for the last 25 years had been a carpenter.
Wesley loved to work with his hands. He will always be remembered for his garden, fruits, grapes and flowers and the generous way he shared these things. In the homes of many of his friends and relatives you can see the gifts he made of violins, picture frames, candlestick holders, pin cushions, toys for children and many other things.
Wesley was a kind and devoted husband. He lovingly cared for his wife Grace who was ill and crippled for 25 years. There were no children born to this union but their home was always open to their nieces and nephews. They took a great-niece, Jean Murry when she was five weeks old and raised her as their own until she was ten years old.
His wife preceded him in death August 31, 1952. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harley, Newell and George; and three sisters, Hattie, Grace, and Delia.
He is survived by one brother, Willis, of Sacramento, CA; the great-niece they reared, Jean Murry Partington; and several nieces and nephews besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted at the Slade Funeral Home on May 5, 1957, at 2 p.m., by the Rev. Walter Goughnour of Welden. Interment was made beside his wife, Grace, in the Leon cemetery.
