William Hill Hudson was born in Missouri on December 24, 1855, and while a child went to Iowa and then to Nebraska with his parents. When a young man, he moved to California and was a prominent Santa Rosa businessman and owner of the Santa Rosa Bottling Works between 1887 and 1924, after running bottling works in Mendocino and Visalia.
On June 10, 1881, he married Percie Palmer, daughter of Healdsburg pioneers, James S. Palmer, and his wife Ann E. Palmer. The Hudson's had two children, one of whom died in infancy. The other, Clyde V. Hudson, worked in the retail drug business with the Hahman Drug Company of Santa Rosa. His two sisters, Theodicia Hudson Schroder and Allie Hudson Tolson also lived in California.
William retired in 1924, and after that time he was not actively engaged in business.
