Peck, Thorit, a member of the Mormon Battalion, Company C, was born May 30, 1826, in Lock, Cayuga Co., New York, a son of Warren and Hannah Peck. He emigrated with his mother to Jackson County, Mo., in the fall of 1833, and a few weeks later the saints were driven out by mobs. Thorit was baptized as a boy and moved with the saints from Missouri to Illinois, and while on the journey from Nauvoo westward in 1846 he enlisted in the famous Mormon Battalion, and marched to California, enduring all the fatigue and hardships of that long, wearisome journey. He arrived in Great Salt Lake Valley in 1848 and was ordained a Seventy May 10, 1857, becoming a member of the 34th quorum of Seventy. He was one of the early settlers of Pleasant Grove, Utah Co., where he resided until his death, which occurred there Feb. 6, 1858, he being only 32 years of age. He left a wife and three children, and died as a faithful member of the Church.
