George Mason Adams was born October 1st 1856 in Northampton, England. He was the third son of David Adams and Maria Thetford. He was five weeks old when he and his mother & brothers sailed from England on November 11, 1856. He and his mother were sick and survived the voyage only by the care of the saints on board the ship. They met their father, who was in America, on New Years Day.

The family settled in Alpine, Utah where George's father was a shoemaker. Because of his occupation the farming was left up to George and his brothers, Edward & William. George did the greater share of the farming while the other boys worked away from home. The Adams family had the first orchard in Alpine.

In about 1873 a beautiful English maiden came to Alpine with her parents to live. Her name was Martha Devey. When George was 19 years old and Martha was 16, they were married for time and eternity on 10 April 1876 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Temple had not been finished at that time.

These pioneers knew hard times. One year their wheat was so smutty that no one would buy it so Martha would wash and dry it then take it to a store and trade it for much needed groceries.

About 1880 George and Martha were called by the Church to go to Arizona and help settle the country and work with the Indians, who at that time were quite hostile. George, Martha and their two young children started the long hazardous trip over the desert, mountains and Lee's Backbone down to the Colorado River. At Lee's Ferry they loaded their wagons on a raft and swam the horses across the river. However, their journey was not ended. The mountain was not so steep, but a long heavy drag of about 40 miles. On they came through the mountains and desert until they came to Ted's [George's brother, David Edward] home which was in a beautiful little valley of a 1000 acres.

Martha died in 1907 and George married Emma Elizabeth Monk on April 7, 1910 in Salt Lake City.

George died of apoplexy [stroke] in 1927 at the age of 71
