Shahik was the oldest of five children born to Abram Karimi-Masihi and Maryam Yaghobi-Masihi. After emigrating to the USA, he settled in Cleveland, Ohio and earned his Ph.D. in Immunology. A lifelong hemophiliac, Shahik was President of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) Board in 1988 and 1989. He married Rebecca (Becke) Hein on June 26, 1987. Shahik received tainted blood from a clinical trial, and tragically acquired HIV. Becke passed away on June 16, 1989, and Shahik followed her in 1995. Shahik and Becke had no children together. Becke had a son, Isaac, from a previous marriage, who Shahik loved as his own son.
Shahik is survived by his mother Maryam, and sisters Jasmine, Hermik, and Rima.
Special thanks go to Isaac Nolan, who provided the marriage dates for Shahik and Becke, as well as the death date for his mother Becke.
