Our dearly loved father, grandfather, brother, and friend Arliss Herman Goff passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the age of 85 in Holladay, Utah of heart failure. He resided at 13522 South 1100 East in Draper, Utah at the time of his death.

Ike was born on Thursday, January 11, 1923 in Sandy, Utah to Clarence Edgar and Octiva Walker Goff.

His childhood and school years were happily spent in Sandy Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School, and was always proud to be a 'Beetdigger'.

While in high school, he was a cheerleader where he made many life-long friends. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and had a passionate love for his country.

On December 22, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart Ruth Curtis (my 4th cousin), whom he loved and adored. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and were happily married for 62 years. Ike and Ruth raised their family in Union, and later moved to Draper.

In 1981, after 30 years of employment, Ike retired from Kennecott Copper. After Ruth passed away, he missed her dearly and filled his hours with service to his family and friends. Ike was active in the LDS Church. One of his favorite callings was working with the young adults.

He loved his family, and was affectionately called "Grandpa Ikie." He was happiest when he was working outdoors. He often said, "Nothing makes me happier than working in the soil. I love hard work."

He loved to garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with everyone. He had a gift for growing dahlias, tomatoes, fruit, grandchildren, and friends. He taught us all that you are only as happy as you decide to be. He was our source of strength, support, love and humor.

He was survived by his children, Randall (Sharlene), South Jordan; Patricia (Alan) Borg, Cottonwood Heights; Scott A. (Michelle), Sandy; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; brother, Alvern; sisters, Iona Shields, Irene Dent, and Lorna Burgon and many friends, neighbors. He was preceded in death by his beloved Ruthie, his parents and brothers, Marvin and Wayne.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Corner Canyon Second Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 13400 South 1300 East in Draper, Utah. Family and Friends attended a viewing on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary located at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. at the Church prior to the services.
Arliss was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.
REST IN PEACE.
