He was assigned to the 376th Bomb Group 512th Bomb Squadron while serving in Africa. Lt Soloff was a bombardier on a B-24D (# 41-23724)which participated in the 1 Aug 1943 bombing of the Romanian oil fields known as "Operation Tidal Wave". It was the first low level bombing of the Ploesti oil fields in Romania.
