Starns, Anna Margaret (Carpenter), 78, retired teacher, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Andover Court Assisted Living.

Anna was born on May 17, 1933, to Gus and Ida (Piper) Carpenter in Cedar Point, Kansas. Anna attended Cedar Point High School, Emporia State Teachers College, Garden City Community College, St. Mary's of the Plains in Dodge City, Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma and graduate work at Wichita State University. She married Jackie Wayne Starns on August 16, 1953, in Cedar Point. Anna was an elementary school teacher in Medicine Lodge, and El Dorado. She also taught students with learning disabilities in Harveyville.

Survivors include her daughters Cindy (Doug) Van Ranken of Andover and Jackie Piha of Douglass, Kansas; brothers Gus (Betty) Carpenter Jr., of Piedmont, Kansas, Gerald Carpenter of Cedar Point and Richard (MaryAnn) Carpenter of Andover; sisters Yvonne Allen and Cleta Scott both of Strong City, Kansas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna was preceded in death by her spouse; parents; brother Morris Carpenter; sisters Juanita Pierce and Janet Remschner; one great-granddaughter Betsy Van Ranken.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Haverhill Christian Church, 10275 SW Haverhill Road, Augusta, Kansas 67010. A private family graveside will be held in the Cedar Point Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Haverhill Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Arab Shrine Children's Travel Fund or Alamine Children's Transportation Fund all in care of the funeral home.
