James Lawrence Fleming, age 82, died January 6, 1999 at Methodist Hospice, after a long illness with Alzheimers.
Born in Spartenburg, SC, to James Lawrence and Rosa Ball Fleming, moved to Jacksonville, February 2, 1942. Served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Was employed as a machinist supervisor at NAS Jax for 35 years, and was an active member of the Avondale Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Choir.
Survived by his wife of 55 years; Lois Mattox Fleming. One son; Larry Fleming and his wife Connie. One daughter; Beverly Fleming, all of Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be conducted from Avondale Baptist Church, by Dr. Ron Hall, and Rev. Howard Goodwin on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
Mr. Flemings' body will lie in state at Avondale Baptist Church Saturday from one until the hour of service. Friends may visit with the family at their residence Friday evening from six until eight.
