In 1999 he was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. A true NASCAR trailblazer, he was the first African-American elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He was enshrined into the 2015 class on January 30, 2015 at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina. In 2018, he was honored with an 8.5 mile section of Route 29, with signs bearing Wendell O. Scott, Senior Memorial Highway.
