Son of and only child of Samuel and Alverta (Piper) Barnes.
Paul served as a Private First Class, U.S. Army during World War II.
He resided in Baltimore County, Maryland prior to the war.
He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and spent six months in the civilian conservation corps before taking a job at Baltimore, MD in the Martin airplane plant, where he was employed at the time of his induction into the armed forces. He enlisted in the Army on April 14, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland.
He trained at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Little Rock, Ark. In their last letter from him dated Feb.2 Paul stated he had been moved to the Philippine area from the Solomons. Private 1st class. Assigned overseas in 1944. He had been in the Pacific area for more than a year.
His mother received a message from the war department indicating Paul had been seriously wounded on Feb 28. 1945, in the fighting at Leyte, Philippine Islands.
Paul "Died Of Those Wounds" and was awarded the Purple Heart.
