She was the wife of James M. Burson, who died in August 2006, and to whom she had been married for 60 years. She was a daughter of Herbert and Lyddie (Honey) Mallinson. She had resided in Shirley since 1965. Prior to moving here, she traveled extensively with her husband who served in the U.S. Army.

Before retiring in 1990, she worked for many years at Fort Devens in the Retirement Services Area. She was a member of the Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg. She was a member of the Squannacook Quilting Guild of Townsend.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Margaret Budd and Ellen Enbom.
