Mr. E. W. Jones passed away at his home, two miles from here Thursday night at 11 o'clock, and was buried at Cross Roads Cemetery Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Mr. Jones was born in Amelia County, Va. December 24th, 1839.
When a young man his parents moved to Homes County, Miss.
In 1862 he and his brothers enlisted in the army and fought for the cause of the South till the year 1865, fortunately all four reached home without being hurt. They were in Co. A, 28th Mississippi Regiment, Armstrong's Birigade, Jackson's Division.
After the war Mr. Jones moved to Texas and finally to Polk County, where he lived until his death. He was married to Miss Mary Matthews in 1876. To this union were born 9 children, 4 boys, Edward, Charlie, Richard and Roy: 5 girls, Cornelius, Claudia, Effie, and Mrs. Winnie Williamson, Livingston, Mrs. Nellie Martin, Groveton, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral.
