Mrs C. M. Brewer, 88, one of the county's oldest residents who for many years made her home in Lamberton, passed away at the Redwood Falls hospital Saturday at one o'clock pm. Until recently she had been living at a rest home in Redwood Falls and was taken to the hospital shortly before her death.
Catherine Murilla Servis was born at St Elizabeth, Canada, September 3, 1860. When she was five years old, her parents, Mr and Mrs Edward Servis, moved to Stacy, Minnesota. After completing high school, she attended Mrs Snow's dressmaking school at St Paul and in later years became an expert needle woman.
She was united in marriage to Prof. Albert M Brewer, prominent musician and a brother of Nicholas Brewer, Minnesota's well-known artist. Mrs Brewer was a member of her husband's orchestra , playing the piano, and continued in this work on numerous occasions after his death. She retired from public life to devote all her time to her four children.
Mrs Brewer lived in Lamberton many years and was one of the first telephone operators here. She served in this capacity for over 30 years, during which time her considerate kindness and helpfulness made her many friends. She was exceptionally kind to children, many of whom frequented her home and were usually treated to goodies. Kindness and consideration were uppermost in her mind and she manifested these attributes in many ways through her deeds and thoughts. She received numerous cards and gifts as tokens of esteem from her many friends and acquaintances.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Margaret Johnson, Tracy, and Mrs Albert Urness, Lamberton. Two sons were drowned in their youth in Big Stone Lake. Ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. C.H. Linden officiating. Two selections were rendered by Mrs June Carlson and Mrs Zona Coulter and A.P. Lee sang the Lord's Prayer. Mrs Linden accompained at the piano. Pallbearers were Henry Mayer, Leo Gebhard, Arthur Howe, Sam Skow, B.J. Coulter. Interment was in the village cemetery.

Catherine is the daughter of Edward Servis (born in Canada) and Mary McQuillon (born in Ireland).
She married Albert M Brewer in St Paul, Ramsey Co, Minnesota on February 13, 1877.
