Amy Perry was born in Limestone County on March 10, 1858. She was born in slavery on John Reagan Henry's plantation. Her mother was Jemima Henry from Morgan County, Alabama. However, her biological father is unknown. Amy's pale complexion strongly suggests that her biological father was of European descent.

She was named after her grandmother Amie Perry Fowler, who came from North Carolina. Amy was reared by her stepfather Jerry Henry and mother Jemima Perry Henry. She had two half-sisters Lona and Rhoda Henry and a half-brother Joseph Henry.

Amy married Horace Bluitt from Alabama. The couple had eight children: Emma, Jarriet, Calvin, Herbert, Nora, Evelyn, Benjamin, and Wilma. She became a widow when the last child was born, leaving her to rear the family with support from extended family members to include the Henrys and Perrys. Amy and her family were Methodist-- the faith of her stepfather.

When Jerry Henry died, Amy was listed in the will and last testament as a stepdaughter.  However,  she shared equally with her sisters in Jerry's estate. Amy owned land on which oil was later discovered during the 1920s -- the "Texas oil boom."

After the children grew into adulthood, Amy moved to Corsicana and bought a home. She remained in Corsicana until her death. Amy was 70 years old when she died on July 2, 1928. Amy Perry Bluitt is laid to rest in the cemetery less than two miles from the John R. Henry's estate in Limestone County, Texas.
