Irvin served as a 2nd Lt., U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Washington County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 14, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted as being employed as a Teacher and also as Married.

He was the assistant principal at Williamsport School prior to the war.

Irvin died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related plane crash in Iceland during the war.

In June of 1944, he gave his hometown of Williamsport a thrill, when he swooped low over the business district in a B-24 Liberator. "He had promised to show the folks back home the big plane that he pilot's".
