John was "Killed In Action" in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

The body of S/Sgt John W. Bussard, who was killed in action at St. Lo, on Jly 2, 1944, will arrive in Hagerstown on Friday evening and will be taken to the Rest Haven Chapel where services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. FRank L. Stine and the Rev. C. L. Thompson officiating. Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery with the 29th Division in charge of full military honors.
Sgt. Bussard, who was a member of the Williamsport United Brethren Church, enlisted in the army February, 1941 and spent two years overseas. He was a member of Co. B of the 29th Division.
He is survived by his wife, Fay; son, John Wayne; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oda Bussard; brother, Keller; sisters, Helen and Margaret, all of Hagerstown.
