Benedict J. Eiden, 61, 2741 Water St., was pronounced dead on arrival at 4:30 a.m. today at St. Michael's Hospital, where he had recently been a patient for about four weeks. He had been ill for about one year.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Mullen will officiate. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dzikowski Funeral Home. Berens-Scribner Post No. 6, American Legion, will hold a ritual at 7 p.m. The Alter Society of St. Stephen's Church will join in praying the general rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Eiden was born April 15, 1913 in the Town of New Hope, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Eiden. He attended schools in New Hope and farmed with his family until moving to Stevens Point for a short time.
On Sept. 23 1940, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was a technician, fifth grade, with Headquarters Battery, 129th Field Artillery Battalion. He served as a truck driver during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was discharged on Aug. 9, 1945.
His marriage to Loretta Kostuch was on Sept. 15, 1945, at St. Stanislaus' Catholic Church.
Mr. Eiden and his wife settled in Stevens Point and moved to the present address about 14 years ago. He was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc., Wisconsin River Division, as a rewinder operator until is illness.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Roman (Judy) Kizewski, Town of Stockton, Christine Eiden, 3200 Water St. and Bonnie, at home; two sons, Danny and David, at home, one sister, Mrs. Julia Ebel, 1300 Briggs St; one brother, Adolph, New Hope, and three grandchildren.
Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
