Obituary from the Hebron Register, April 13, 1906:
"We are sorry to have to announce the death of Mrs. Hattie Shoup, wife of Henry Shoup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baker, aged 42 years, 7 months and 13 days. She leaves a loving husband and three sons, Charles, Birt and Jay and two daughters Vina and Grace besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn her absence. She was born at Freeport, Illinois, August 24 1863 passing away from this earth to the great unknown Saturday, April 7 1906 at 10:30 pm after a lingering illness of several months, during which time she suffered greatly, but being of a lively disposition, she always endevoured to look on the bright side of life. She has left a void in the home; and she will be so sadly missed by the loved ones. Mrs. Shoup was united in marriage to Henry Shoup October 1881. All extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones and trust peace may come to them all. A large crowd of friends and neighbors assembled Monday at 1 pm to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased, following the remains to the Maple grove cemetery to be laid to rest with the loved ones gone before, 'peace to the weary one, joy to the soul, gone to a better world, than this below.'"
