Four graduating seniors from West Iron County High School will be attending this year's "Operation Bentley" to be held June 15th through July 2nd at the Olivet College Campus in Olivet.
The students selected to attend this year are Timothy Bors, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kadluboski, 805 Wilson Ave., Stambaugh; Susan Eckart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Eckart of Rte. 1, Iron River; Thomas Kovachic, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kovachic, 124 8th, Iron River, and Janice Truel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Truel, Rte. 3, Iron River.
"Operation Bentley" is a three week workshop in local government and state legislation held each year in a Michigan College.
Named for its original sponsor, Alvin Bentley, the program was initiated some time ago by former state legislator D. Hale Brake.The Bentley Foundation has since run out of funds and the program is now being carried out by various local sponsors in communities throughout the state. In this area, "Operation Bentley" is being sponsored by the three area banks, the Iron River National and the Miners' State Bank in Iron River, the Commercial Bank of Stambaugh and Mr. D. Hale Brake.
"Operation Bentley" is open to senior students throughout the state who are chosen on the basis of scholastic ability in government classes, interest in government and interest in pursuing further studies in government beyond the high school level. This year, from 100 to 110 such students from throughout the state will be participating in the three-week project.
