Ivo Andric studied philosophy in Vienna, Krakow and Graz where he took the Ph.D. degree in 1924. He is well-known Yugoslav novelist of unusual stature, and who in recent years has found an increasungly wide audience as more and more of his work has come to be translated. Ivo started to publish his works from 1911, mainly poetry and prose. From 1920 to 1941 he has been in diplomatic service of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, as embassor in Germany. From 1945 on he worked as professional writer. Ivo Andric got the Nobel Price for the literature in 1961 for the novel "Na Drini cuprija" ("Bridge on the Drina"). His works are translated and published in the most of the main world languages. Buried on New cemetery, Beograd,Yugoslavia (bio by: Jelena)
