Middleton - Mildred B. Wallen, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Middleton Village Nursing Home with her son and daughter at her side.

She was born on June 13, 1915, in Dunn County, the daughter of Nels and Inga Clements. She married Hjalmer Wallen on Nov. 25, 1936. They lived near Almena for two years where Hjalmer worked at a lumber mill. In 1939, they purchased a farm in Vance Creek Township, Barron County, where they did dairy farming for many years.

Mildred thoroughly enjoyed her rural life, frequently taking walks in their wooded acreage. In addition to maintaining her household, she participated in many of the farming activities, enjoyed needlework (crocheting and embroidery) and had large vegetable, fruit and flower gardens. She was known in the neighborhood for being a wonderful cook. She was a lifelong member of West Akers Lutheran Church (she was baptized there). In later years, Mildred lived in Clear Lake, Boyceville, Menomonie and Middleton, but her heart never left the farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; and two granddaughters, Pamela Miller and Beth Ann Miller. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Nels and Inga Clements; and siblings, Herbert Clements, Orlen Clements, Thelma Wagner and two infant brothers.

Mildred's family would like to express their deep appreciation to her care teams at Middleton Village Nursing Home and Agrace Hospice who made her final days as comfortable as possible.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at WEST AKERS LUTHERAN CHURCH in Dunn County. The service will begin at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City is taking care of arrangements.
