We got Jazz when she was about a year old through an ad in the newspaper. She was a Doberman/Greyhound mix and was a beautiful dog. She was very high spirited and of course, loved running. While causing trouble for me, she had the best intentions. My youngest daughter used to have to be harnessed in bed because she has a great deal of problems. Well, if she cried, Jazz went right in and chewed her harness off of her! At first, I tried to return her to her previous owner because of it but when they refused, saying that they had already gotten another dog, I worked through this problem and decided to keep her. After all, she really WAS trying to be helpful!
On another occasion they were both playing when Jazz jumped up at the same time as Melanie and they banged heads. Melanie broke the bone around her eye! It was definitely an accident though, and it healed well.
Being so protective of Melanie though, is what lead to her demise. When I was putting my daughter on the school bus one day, she ran out the door and stood between the monitor and my daughter and the monitor almost gave up and was going to refuse to take her to school. It worked out alright though, and off she went. Jazz wasn't about to come in the house though, and charged down the street. What grace she ran with and at such a speed that there was no way I could catch her. All I could do is wait for her to return home. Soon a knock came at the door though and it was my brother-in-law. Jazz had been struck by a car and killed, crossing the street to come home. I was heartbroken and as with Mitzi, it was a hit-and-run driver once again. I don't know why people think that animals aren't worth stopping for and am glad that the laws have gotten stricter regarding animals. I know there will always be those who don't care but if there is only one more who DOES care, it is worthwhile.
God bless you sweet Jazz, as you romp and play with the rest of the family and friends that you have met just the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I'll see you when I get there!
Mom, Dad and the rest of the family who miss you and loved you so much. XOXOXOXOXO
