Beloved cat companion for 18 years. He was named after a character in a John Lennon poem. He was chosen from the Humane Society because he was chasing his tail. Though he almost died as a kitten he went on to live a healthy, happy life. He was a rare cat who would make eye contact and come whenever he was called. He was always by my side and would often drape himself around my neck as I went about my daily routine. People often said they never saw such a devoted cat.

If MENSA had a feline division, Nigel would have qualified. When he wanted to wake me up, he would walk along the dresser knocking off the knickknacks one at a time until I finally got up. When we lived in a trailer, he learned how to open the door below the sink and found a route to get under the trailer and then out into the yard. From then on, he wanted to go outside so I bought him a "har har" and he would be very excited when he saw it because it meant an outing.

He liked jewelry and enjoyed trying to touch any necklace I might be wearing. He would stare off into space and, when I tried to see what he was looking at, he would grab the necklace.

Nigel loved to dance, to lay on my hip, and to sleep on the back of my chair with one paw touching my neck. Sometimes I swear I still feel that paw and I know it's my boy letting me know he's still with me.

The night before he died he was very weak. I made a special bed for him on his favorite chair but in the middle of the night, with his last bit of strength, he crawled to the bedroom to be with me. He will always be in my heart.
