Donald A. Gantz, of Gettysburg, entered into eternal rest December 1.
He was the son of the late George H. and M. Jane (Sanders) Gantz.
Donald was a 1973 graduate of Gettysburg High School, and was co-owner and operator of GS&G Builders of Gettysburg for 30 years.
He was a life member, former fire chief, current member and secretary of the Relief Committee of the Barlow Fire Co.; member and vice-president of the Gettysburg Fire Co.; member of the Fairfield Fire Co., the Adams County Fireman's Association, and Pennsylvania State Fireman's Association; instructor and member of the Training Committee for the Adams County Training Center; and a member of the Gettysburg Eagles. Mr. Gantz was the Barlow Fire Co. fire chief from 1990-1995.
He was a Pennsylvania Certified Fire Instructor, and was awarded the Medal of Valor from the Eastern Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
Mr. Gantz was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Jessica L. Wilkinson, of Hagerstown, MD, and Stacie M. Gantz of Fort Collins, CO; a son, Jeremy M. Gantz, of Burlington, VT; a granddaughter; his companion of many years, Lori A. Kane, and her sons, Daniel and Brent Strasbaugh; two brothers, Fred Gantz of York Springs, and Shawn Gantz, of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Susan Gantz, of Gettysburg; a nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gantz, who departed this life in 2000.
