|Birth: ||Oct. 13, 1857|
|Death: ||Feb. 22, 1941|
Daughter of James Hawk and Margaret Cathey. Said to have been a descendant of Georgia Cherokee leader named Black Hawk. As a child moved to Denton County with her family. First married John W "Billey" Moore. Their children were James L Moore, Alice Nora Moore, William Arthur Moore and possibly one other Moore child. "Billey" Moore died April 4, 1882 and is buried adjacent to Nancy.
Nancy married Henry Stephen Claytor February 18, 1886 in Denton County. They had three children: Ida May, Nellie and Wallace Olen.
In her late years, an attempt was made by county workers to secure a Confederate Widows' pension for Nancy, making a claim that she had been the spouse of one William Arthur Moore, who had enlisted 1861 at age 37 in Taos, Navarro County, TX in Co E, 10th Texas Cavalry Volunteers (Locke's Regiment). This was not John W "Billey" Moore with whom Nancy was enumerated in the 1880 Census where he was 40 years old. His grave marker states he was 42 years old in 1882 when he died. The pension was probably an effort by county officials to see that she had an income in her old age.
The pension is sometimes erroneously indexed as having been for the widow of William Arthur Claytor, as her application was submitted under the name Nancy Claytor.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Denton.
According to her obituary she was born October 13, 1856 rather than 1857 as shown on her marker.
Her obituary erroneously states she was the widow of W. H. [sic] Claytor at the time of her death in 1941. However her second husband H. S. Claytor did not die until 1945. Nancy and Claytor had separated about 1896.
