The sixth child of Pieter Ydes Andringa (1863 - 1927) and Trijntje Dirks Gorter (1868 - 1941). He was one of my grandmother's younger brothers. Yde owned a cigar shop in Oosterbierum, a short distance from the Wadden Zee(Sea).
According to Dutch custom, graves are "recycled" by lowering the body after about 20-30 years and burying someone else on top. The old gravestone is destroyed and a new one is put into place. Yde was the owner of the two burial plots and when he died, his mother's body was lowered and he was buried on top.
The church in this photo is still active today, while the other Dutch Reformed Church in Oosterbierum has been turned into a bed & breakfast.
