Columbus Junction, Ia., March 22,- The entire community was shocked when word reached here late Monday afternoon that F. M. Colton, a former Columbus Junction man, had been killed in the wreck near Green Mountain yesterday.
Mr. Colton's home is in Washington, Iowa, where he held a prominent position with the George Paul Land Co.
He spent Sunday here with relatives and in the company of W. J. Southwell, departed in the 10:25 that night for a trip through Minnesota in the interest of the Paul Land Company.
Fred M. Colton was born in Columbus City, Iowa, March 7, 1872, being 38 years old at the time of his death.
He was united to Miss Mamie Klotz, of Columbus Junction, at which place they made their home. Mr. Colton being employed in the Louisa County National Bank, where he was assistant cashier about six years. They moved to Kohler, N. M. where Mr. Colton was employed by Mr. Letts of this place, who owns a ranch there. About one year ago they returned to Iowa, and made there home in Washington.
Mr. Colton was a most highly respected man and was a member of the K.P. and Knights of the Templar Lodges.
He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Colton of Columbus City, who with his two sisters; Mrs. R. S. Johnston, of Columbus City and Miss Elsie Colton, of Des Moines, survive to mourn his death. he also leaves his wife and daughter, Miss Greta, of Washington, Iowa and hosts of other relatives and friends.
His father and brother-in-law R.S. Johnston, went to Marshalltown, last evening to accompany the remains to this place. They are expected to arrive here this evening.
A message to Mrs. Fred Colton from George Paul, who is in Corpus Cristi, Texas requested her to delay the funeral until his arrival here.
The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Presbyterian church. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Leote, rector of the Saint James Episcopal church of Davenport. The Knight Templars will have charge of the services after the cortege leaves the church.
