Peter Clinton was born in Ireland, May 1, 1834, and died at the home of his son, Patrick J, on Thursday, December 29, 1921. On December 23, 1854, he came to America, landing at New York and from there he moved to Amboy, Illinois, where he took up rail roading for awhile after which he worked on a steamboat on the Mississippi River. His run being from Cairo, Illinois to New Orleans, La.
In 1865, he was united in marriage with Miss Cathryn Mackin and to this union 9 children were born, 6 of whom died in infancy. One daughter, Mary, dying about 10 years ago at Denison, Iowa. His wife died on December 8, 1880. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas H and Patrick F and two grandchildren, Kathryn and Lucille.
Peter took up farming and on March 17, 1872, they moved to a farm near Dunlap, Iowa for one year and then for two years he rented a farm on Pretty Prairie, after which he purchased the farm on which he was called to meet his Redeemer. After the death of his first wife, he married Mary Carroll in 1884.
He has been in poor health for the last three years and on Christmas day contracted a cold which settled into bronchial pneumonia and caused his death. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Buck Grove, after which his remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Old Catholic Cemetery.
Peter was the son of Thomas and Anna Clark Clinton.
