Birth: Feb. 7, 1838
New York, USA
Death: Aug. 18, 1872
Nodaway County
Missouri, USA

Nelson was the son of John & Catherine Rhodes Armes. In 1860 Nelson lived in New York & was listed as a cooper on the census.

Nelson was a soldier in the Civil War. He enlisted 9 Oct. 1861 as a private in Randolph, NY. He entered Co. B, NY 64th Infantry Reg. as a private on 20 Sept. 1861. He mustered out on 14 Jan 1863 at Philadelphia - discharged for disability. Notes say he was wounded in action September 17, 1862 at Antietam.

Nelson married Lucy Brooks on 20 FEB 1870 in Jackson, Minnesota. Nelson was farming near his sister Eusebia Armes Allen. This family moved to Clearmont, Missouri & was murdered near there in 1872. The citizens of Clearmont took matters into their own hands when they executed Alexander Tansey on August 22, 1872, the man who took the lives of Nelson & his family.

Neighbors worked together to erect the stone for the family.
