Bernard Hersperger was born in Sissach, now in Basel-Landschaft Canton, Switzerland. He married the widow Elizabeth Wurtz (née Nebiger) on 11 December 1759 in Switzerland. The couple, with their six children (plus Elizabeth's daughter from her first marriage) immigrated to Pennsylvania Colony in 1772. Bernard Hersperger later bought and settled on land near Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland.
Bernard Hersperger was a member of the Frederick County, Maryland, Observation Committee, a patriot body that monitored compliance with the boycott of British merchandise.
Bernard Hersperger left a will dated 11 June 1798 in Frederick County. (thank you AnnS) He reportedly died on 22 September 1798.
