George A. Rookey 75, of Rte. 48 North, Fulton, died Thursday, Jan. 18, at Lee Memorial Hospital. A native of Oswego, Mr. Rookey lived in Fulton for 45 years. He retired as an auto mechanic with Dunn Buick in Fulton and also had been head salesman with Rothchild Buick and Oldsmobile in Fulton.
His wife, Phyllis, died in 1986. Mr. Rookey was a member of the Fulton Polish Home, Fulton Lodge 1280, Loyal Order of Moose, and Fulton Lodge 830, BPOE. A Navy veteran of World War II and a veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Rookey was senior vice-commander and a former commander of Fulton Post 569, VFW, and the Oswego County and Fulton veterans councils. He also was a former seam squirrel of Puptent 48, Military Order of the Cootie, and a member of Fulton Post, American Legion. He was named the 1995 Veteran of the Year by the Fulton Veterans Council Surviving are a son, Michael of Liverpool; a daughter, Barbara VanDeusen of Meridian; a brother. Bob of Oswego; a
friend Betty Laurent of Fulton; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, Jan. 22, at Sugar Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Oswego
