Mabel M. Gish Battle Creek Mabel M. Gish, 81, of Battle Creek, was reunited by God with her husband on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 while surrounded by her loving family. Mabel fought a brave battle against Mesothelioma. She was born on June 2, 1929, in Kalamo Township, the daughter of Truman and Blanche (Roberts) Gordnier. Lovingly known as "Nana" to her family, she generously thought of others before herself. Mabel was previously employed by the RW Snyder Co. She then became a homemaker to raise her children. Mabel was later employed as a cook for the Harper Creek Public Schools. She retired as head cook after 22 years of service. Mabel married Mr. William J. "Bill" Gish on April 5, 1949 in Angola, IN. He preceded her on August 3, 2007. Nana loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and enjoyed the family cabin near Whittemore. She was also fond of reading, her stories on television and her pets Tigger and Patchy. Mabel was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and also worshiped in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Nana is survived by her children, Shannon Reid of Climax, William N. "Billy" (Brenda) Gish of Battle Creek, Michelle (Wayne) Wardell of Battle Creek and Holly (Randy) Mackinder of Portage. Nana also leaves 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and her sister, Mary Perkins of Port Charlotte, FL. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 at Royal Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Calhoun Area Humane Society, American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice.
