David Michael McDill Battle Creek, age 73, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Battle Creek Health System. David was born on July 3, 1937, in Sparta, IL, the son of Thomas and Martha (Sisk) McDill. He had been a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated with a Master's degree in Science from Drake University in Iowa where he was a 4 year letterman and captain of the track team. On January 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Dianne M. Perry who survives. David was employed as a teacher at Harper Creek Schools from 1964 until his retirement in 1996. He served as the athletic director, pool director, and was a track, swimming and tennis coach. He was the first person to be installed in the sports Hall of Fame at Harper Creek. He was a member of the Battle Creek Friends Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for several years and was active in the Gideons. He loved building muzzleloaders, bows, fly fishing rods, fly tying, working with kids, racing sailboats and was a member of the Goguac Yacht Club. Surviving are daughters, Michelle D. "Miki" (Ron) Holder of Battle Creek, Heather A. Sauer of St. Louis, MO, and Erin M. (Brian) Johnson of Bailey, CO; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia "Pat" Taylor of Gastonia, SC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2010, at Battle Creek Friends Church with Pastor Kelly Hadlich officiating. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Battle Creek Friends Church and the Gideons.
