He was the son of William H. and Ruby E. (Reynolds) Chestnut. A farmer, he was a member of Shiloh Church of God, Moore Lodge No. 303 of Odon Scottish Rite, York Rite, and International Union of Operating Engineer No. 841. He was a founding member and charter member of the White River Valley Antique Assoc. He enjoyed farming and collecting antique International Harvester tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Helen) Chestnut, whom he married June 12, 1955; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph A. and Barbara Chestnut of Odon, Benjamin R. and Becky Chestnut and Kenneth H. and Lisa Chestnut, all of Burns City; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Donald L. Chestnut of Switz City and Jack L. Chestnut of Griffith.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Harold R. Chestnut. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Church of God, with Revs. Steve Sims and Chris Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. Friends wishing to attend the funeral service are asked to meet at the funeral home for a processional to the church.
