"Monty" , 74, went to be with the Lord in Fort Worth.
Lemont "Monty" Phillips was born on March 2, 1930 in East St. Louis, Ill.
He grew up in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Great Lakes Bible College in Zion, Ill. There he met and married Barbara Simpson Phillips on June 30, 1951. They moved to Fort Worth in 1952.
Monty was a grocery manger for 25 years with Worth Food Markets/Piggly Wiggly and then worked 17 years as Retail Sales Manager for King Finnell and Russell-Moss Food brokerage companies.
In his later years he found his greatest joy and fulfillment in fulltime ministry. His role as Senior Adult Pastor was consistently modeled by humility, meekness, kindness and gentleness. His love for God and others was characterized by unlimited patience, compassion and sacrificial giving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Guy and Lena Phillips, one sister, Audrey Phillips Durham. Survivors: Loving wife, Barbara, children, Larry and wife, Marian Phillips of De Soto; Rodney and wife, Sheryll Phillips of Cedar Hill; Cathy and husband, Jeff Wickwire; grandchildren, Jeremy and Julia Wickwire and Ethan Phillips; and one brother, Glenn and wife, Frances Phillips of Longview; and several nieces and nephews.
