Maricelle "Billie" Plante DesLauriers

Maricelle "Billie" DesLauriers, 89, of Sunsites, died on Feb. 13, 2006, in the Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox after an extended illness. Billie was born on June 7, 1916, in Elk River, Minn., to Mary (Dupont) Plante and John Plante.

The family then moved to Minneapolis, she was the second youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. She attended catholic boarding schools. She was a trained classical musician and pianist. Billie married Leslie Crandall in 1943 in Fort Snelling. They moved to Mauston, Wis., and ran the family furniture store. Les died in 1963.

Billie was excellent at bookkeeping. She worked for and insurance agency and clothing store in Mauston when she met Ed DesLauriers, a promotional sales specialist. They were married in 1976 and relocated to Sunsites, where they made their home in their retirement years. Up until her illness, Billie was the organist for St. Jude Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her deliciously baked Amish bread, Christmas Candy and her beautiful knitting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Les Crandall in 1963 and Ed DesLauriers in 2000, 13 siblings, and her good friend and neighbor Mac Johnson. Billie is survived by many nieces and nephews, her stepdaughter Linda DesLauriers Napiwocki, of Madison, Wis., son-in-law Roger Napiwocki and granddaughter Danielle. Many thanks to the caring staff at Willcox Hospital, Northwest Hospital, and the Charles Wm. Leighton Jr. Hospice program. Also thanks to the kindness shown by the pastor and parishioners of St. Jude's and her good friends. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Jude Catholic Church. and burial followed in Pearce Cemetery, Pearce, Ariz. Contributions may be made to Charles Wm. Leighton Jr. Hospice, P.O. Box 115, Willcox, Ariz., 85644 or St. Jude Catholic Church, P.O. Box 328, Pearce, Ariz., 85625.
