Marianna Grace Wimberly, 28, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Petersburg, on Monday, April 2, 2007, after a lengthy, courageous battle with Crohn's disease and lupus.
Born in Baton Rouge, Marianna graduated from University High School on LSU's campus, attended LSU for two years before transferring to Louisiana Tech University, where she graduated with honors in child life therapy. While at Tech, she served as assistant chaplain to the children at Methodist Children's Home. Marianna interned at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, which became home to her in her life's mission to work with children in a medical setting. Her focus lay in the emergency room, where she worked with sick children and their parents for the next five years until her five-month battle which led her from St. Pete to Tampa to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and finally, back to St. Anthony's Hospital. While the majority of her care was originally guided by Dr. Jaffe of New Orleans, she found a wise and caring team of nurses and doctors in St. Pete, led by Dr. Corey Evans.
Marianna will always be remembered for her nurturing nature, her love of children and animals, and her strong emphasis on family. She engineered a family cruise, completed only a month before her final hospitalization.
Marianna is survived by loving parents, Deanna and Ray Comingore and Lorris and Becky Wimberly. She was one of eight siblings, Knox, Shelley and Wesley Wimberly, who moved to St. Pete to be with her, Ronnie and Jeffrey Maddocks and Angela and Christina Comingore; two sisters-in-law, Amanda Maddocks and Paige Pearson; and precious cousins and dear aunts. In addition, she leaves her legacy with numerous special friends and Shaun Hess, her boyfriend.
Arrangements entrusted to Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Funeral service at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, at Sharp Road. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
