ALTON, IL - Clarence Allen Emmons, Sr., 75, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 1995, at Alton Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a gas service man for Union Electric Co., retiring in 1981, after 39 years of service. He was a charter member of Alton-Wood River Sportsmen's Club of Godfrey and a member of IBEW Union Local 649.
Born July 2, 1919, in Lynnville, IL, he was the son of the late Walter and Edna (Smedley) Emmons.
He married the former Daisy M. Conklin June 15, 1946, in Alton. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte L. and John M. Sumner of Rosewood Heights, a son, Clarence A. Emmons, Jr. of Godfrey, four grandchildren, Cynthia and Robert Emmons and Matthew and Daniel Sumner, three great-grandchildren, Ricky Allen Wyman and Megan and Samantha Emmons, a sister, Florence Showalter of Fort Lauderdale, FL and a brother, Howard Emmons of Cottage Hills.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Marge Emmons and a brother, Robert Emmons.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Todd Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
