ASTORIA - Vernon W.F. Oest, 73, of Astoria died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Havana Healthcare Center.He was born March 21, 1932, in Bath, the son of John L.F. and Elizabeth Annabelle Koehne Oest. He married Berenice Waino Hamm in 1976.Mr. Oest was a boilermaker for more than 30 years, retiring from Archer Daniels Midland in Peoria in 1994. He was a 30-year member of Twin Forks Hunting Club of Quiver Creek in Mason County and served as trustee for Kerton Township and treasurer and trustee of the Hickory-Kerton Fire Department, both in Fulton County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 101st Airborne Division.Survivors: wife, Berenice; two stepsons, Ronald (wife, Rosemary) and Dennis (wife, Pam) Hamm, both of Peoria; two stepdaughters, Sue (husband, Gary) Tarvin of Astoria and Marilyn Ford of Canton; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin (wife, Shirley) Oest of Topeka, Donald Oest of Ellisville and Kenneth (wife, Bessie) Oest of Havana; and several nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.Cremation will be accorded following services.Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hurley Funeral Home, Havana, the Rev. Brian Lesemann officiating.
