Desperate Duel

We learn that a desperate duel was fought on Wednesday in the neighborhood of the city, between and ex-Confederate and a Federal officer. The weapons were pistols and at the first fire, the Federal received the bullet of his antagonist through both lungs, causing a dangerous and probably a fatal wound. The Ex-Confederate was shot through both legs, below the knee, the tibia of the right leg being broken. Though serious, his hurts are not dangerous. We believe the quarrel arose from politics. The Federal is a native of France, whilst the ex-Confederate is either a native Frenchman, or a Creole of French extraction, who was an officer in Coppens' Louisiana battalion, and had been publicly complimented by Gen. Lee on the battlefield for his gallantry. It is rumored about town that three more duels were to have been fought yesterday afternoon, and three more this morning, but we have not learned the particulars.
