EISENBERG, Walter Edgar - Surrounded by his kids, Walter Edgar Eisenberg died peacefully in Chico, CA. on Nov. 18, 2005. A native San Franciscan, Walter was born to Gertrude and Ernest Eisenberg on May 3, 1919. He was the brother of Byron (Doretta) and Howard (Elaine, who passed away in July) Eisenberg of San Mateo. Walter was happily married for 59 years to Zelda Jolin Eisenberg who predeceased him in April of this year. During Zelda's long battle with Alzheimer's, Walter was her devoted and loving caregiver. Walter leaves behind his three adoring children; George (Theresa) of San Rafael, Joan (Brian Rea) of Chico, and Geoff (Sandy) of Santa Cruz. He was the proud and beloved Grandpa of Lizzy, Maggie, Lily, Andy and Shelby. Walter will be sadly missed by Randall Jolin and all his other nieces and nephews who were so dear to him. Following his graduation from Lowell High School, Walter received his degree from UC Berkeley and remained close to so many classmates and fraternity brothers. During World War II, Walter served his country as lieutenant aboard the USS Boyd in the Pacific. After the War, Walter joined the family business, Byron's Shoes. His career at Byron's was centered in San Mateo where he lived and raised his family. Walter was an avid golfer and bridge player and an active member of Peninsula Golf and Country Club in San Mateo. After his kids went off to college, Walter and Zelda moved to Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, CA. where they spent 13 wonderful years enjoying friends and family. Wanting to be closer and more involved with their children and grandchildren, Walter and Zelda moved to Chico. Walter remained active in bridge and played many times each week. Following Zelda's death, Walter's bridge friends gave him so much comfort and pleasure. Walter's family is particularly grateful to his dear friend, Esther Leachman of Tehema, CA. Walter's family would like to thank those who were so kind and helpful to him during his illness, especially M. Hooper. The family held a small, private service on Thanksgiving Day. Memorial contributions may be made to Enloe Hospice or a charity of your choice.
