Barbara E. Kallas (nee Costin), died January 20, 2004 at the hands of her husband George Kallas. She was fatally shot at the Lorain Public Library System's main branch on West 6th Street. She was shot five times with a .38-caliber handgun, according to police and the corner.
LORAIN- Barbara E. Kallas (nee Costin), 57, of Lorain, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.
She was born October 4, 1916, in Lorain, where she was lifelong area resident.
She graduated from Admiral King High School in 1964.
Mrs. Kallas was employed as a library assistant at the Lorain Public Library Main Branch and Avon Branch for three and a half years.
She was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Elyria, where she participated in Bible study. She enjoyed reading and baking.
Survivors include her sons David and Jonathan Kallas, both of Lorain; daughter, Beth Trask of Groton, Conn.; her parents Michael and Emily (nee Gidycz) Costin of Lorain; sisters Phylis Garcia and Karen Smith, both of Lorain; brother, Dale Costin of South Amherst; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marcia Costin, in 1997.
Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.
Friends may also call Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Church of the Open Door. The Rev. Jim Mindling, pastor, will officate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
